The 'E' Word

One of my favorite blogs to read is Faith Barista.  This is a Christian faith based blog with interesting insights from Bonnie, the writer of the blog.  One of Bonnie's beliefs is that there is no greater ministry than what we do and show others in our day to day life.  And being a lover of all things coffee related, the coffee references don't hurt, either.

Every Thursday at Faith Barista, Bonnie offers up a topic and encourages her readers to post their blog on that subject.  This week's subject is, 'What is the one area you'd like a refill of encouragement?'  The example she gives are work, parenting, faith, etc.

Yogi-isms

Yet another year goes by and still my birthday hasn't made it into the 'This Day in History' app that I have on my iPad.

Yes, William James Mayo was born this day in 1861.

Yes, in 1767, the Parliament of the United Kingdom passed the Townshend Acts, which is one of the events that led up to the Declaration of Independence.

Yes, in 1880 France annexed Tahiti.  I have no clue what this one means, so I will be heading over to Wikipedia shortly to get a history lesson.

However, there is still no mention that in 1960 Dorothy Carol Jones was born at the Renton Hospital in Renton, Washington.  Oh, well, I have an entire year to do something monumental to get a mention.

You Know You Are Tired When ...

... You think that the curser on your laptop is a bug so you squash it.

Roxy was up at her regular time this morning.  Early o'clock.  She was bouncing around the bed, trying to wake me up to take her out.  But first we have to play a game of 'I don't want to jump off the bed, so you have to lift me off and I think it really is a game, so I am going to run away from you'.  It is a very annoying game that is played in a dark room on a queen size bed, which is one size too small for the three of us.  I am at a disadvantage in that I am only half awake and trying hard and failing miserably not to wake up Randy while Roxy dances around the bed.

Who Says That Middle-Aged People Don't Know How To Have A Good Time ~ Part One

I have thought long and hard how to write a blog about the time that Jim & Marcia and Jack and Teri spent with us.  It just isn't coming to me.  Being really tired doesn't help, either.  Right at this particular moment in time, I have officially given up on trying to recreate in words and pictures every single minute of the five days that Jim and Marica were here and the twelve days of Jack and Teri.

Here is a somewhat condensed version of our time together ...

... We ate very well ...

Facts and Figures

In celebration of Father's Day, here are some interesting tidbits of information:

The mother of Father's Day is Sonora Dodd.  She wanted a special day to honor her father and on June 19th, 1910, the first Father's Day was celebrated in Spokane, Washington.

Just Like That

Goodbyes are so very hard.  Every hello, in one way or another, has a goodbye attached to it.  I knew this day was coming, but knowing it didn't make it any easier.

After an almost two week stay with us, Randy and I were up and out of bed at 0'dark thirty to see Jack and Teri off as they had to start their journey back to Washington this morning.

Today is Jack's birthday and we had a wonderful birthday celebration last night.  Randy grilled ribeye steaks and I roasted potatoes.  I made a chocolate fudge cake with cream cheese frosting for dessert.  Teri and I were able to put our creative cake decorating skills to work.  Everything was delicious.

The Cost of Friendship

As I mentioned the other day, Randy and I have had visitors for the past week.  Jim and Marcia, friends of ours from way back moseyed their way to us and arrived last Sunday.

Jim and Marcia, while I don't want to say they are old friends, are old friends.  Randy, Jim and Marcia were all friends before I entered Randy's life.  BD - Before Dorothy - when Randy had another life, if you know what I mean.  The Callison's are friends, jeeping, camping and fishing buddies and we all were, with the exception of Marcia, co-workers at one time or another.  Marcia, while she never physically worked at NorWesCo, she spent thousands of hours living the place through Jim and quite possibly the rest of us.

Company Is Coming

(This blog was started last Saturday, and for the reasons stated below, I have been sort of tied up.)

Starting Monday, there is going to be a 50 and over party at the ole homestead.

Jack & Teri and Jim & Marcia will be arriving to spend some time with us and the heat.  Jon pointed out to me that it has to be a title to a movie.  I had to break the bad news that he was incorrect.  The correct title is 'Bob & Carol and Ted & Alice.'

My Tail Of Woe

I have over the past few months worked out a process that although it may be over-kill, allows me to download, organize and view my pictures using the free Picasa program and Photo Shop Elements 9.

All was working quite nicely.  For awhile.  Slowly, the programs started to load sluggishly and freeze up until a couple of weeks ago it all got to be annoyingly ridiculous.

This all caused my laptop to freeze up and die one morning and frustrate me to no end.  I left mid-morning to run some errands and no miracle happened while I was gone to make things any better.

Before and After, Dear

This is what I woke up to the other morning ...
